The cup can be used for drinking and also be washed by hand in water since it is coated with several layers of lacquer Artist Yair Emanuel, a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, lives and works in Jerusalem. Emanuel’s style of Judaic art is based on a fusion of traditional motifs and ancient Jewish manuscripts with modern and Oriental art. His art is characterised by its vivid and harmonious colours as well as its mixture of the old and the new. The principal techniques he employs encompass painting on silk , hand embroidery, raw-silk appliqué and painting on wood. Eliyahu, or Elijah, a biblical figure who, at Passover, is believed to make an appearance at every Jewish family’s seder table. It is customary that an Eliyahu cup is presented on each table.
